Oliver was admitted to practice in 2016 and called to the Bar in 2024. He accepts briefs in a range of areas, with a particular focus on public law and appeals.
Oliver has extensive experience in judicial review proceedings in a number of jurisdictions both within and outside of Australia. He appears in a range of Commonwealth and State jurisdictions in relation to migration and citizenship, disciplinary, information law, and social security matters. Oliver acts both for and against government authorities and has been involved in a number of matters of significance for the development of migration law in Australia. He has also been involved in public law proceedings of particular significance overseas, and accepts briefs to appear in administrative and constitutional proceedings in the Republic of Fiji.
Oliver’s other primary area of practice is in criminal appeals. He regularly appears (both led and unled) in the Court of Appeal and is frequently briefed to advise in respect of such matters.
Prior to joining the Bar, Oliver was a Senior Associate at a leading national firm, where his practice focused predominantly on merits and judicial review proceedings. Oliver continues to accept briefs to appear in the Administrative Review Tribunal, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and other merits review tribunals across Australia.
Oliver is also a legal officer in the Army Reserve and has a keen interest in military & national security law in Australia and overseas.
Oliver is a member of the Australian Institute of Administrative Law, the Australian Association of Constitutional Law, and of the Law Society of South Australia’s Administrative & Public Law committee.
