Matt practises at all levels of the criminal justice system from summary matters to appeals. He accepts briefs to appear as counsel and provides opinions in criminal matters (State and Commonwealth), coronial inquests, public inquiries, disciplinary action and ICAC matters.

Prior to joining the independent bar, Matt worked as a prosecutor for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (SA) and for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions in Sydney, a solicitor-advocate at the Legal Services Commission of SA, senior solicitor assisting the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Assistant Director at the Australian Defence Force Abuse Inquiry and a Detective with the South Australia Police.

He holds a Masters in Law and is a member of the University of South Australia Law School Advisory Board.
